Report: IT Governance Africa Conference 2011 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Monday, 17 October 2011 09:49

Between November 8 and 10, 2011; the IT Governance Conference Africa took place in Sandton; South Africa. Topics included:

  • IT Governance Frameworks
  • King III
  • Information Security Implementation
  • International Data Privacy
  • Cobit 4 & 5
  • Cloud Governance
  • Information Management Strategy
  • Web Archiving

Hosted at the beautiful Balalaika Hotel, the conference hosts did everything to suit the Governance needs of their participants. Over 100 participants from all over Africa were present and participated actively in the sessions. King III and implementation issues as well as Cobit 5 got a lot of attention.

The conference has shown increased maturity in various aspects of IT Governance. It became obvious that altough developing slowly, the concept of "enterprise govering IT" and not vice versa has finally found its way into practice. We see increased awareness of senior management towards strategic issues such as business IT-alignment, a central message of IT-Governance.

For the first time, two session focusing on Information Management and Web Archiving were presented.  These young disciplines are drawing attention becasue of the fact, that "big data" or "data deluge" as we prefer to name it, will be one of the first three top challenges of organizations today and in the near future. Privacy legislation is still under way and it seems that the concepts of privacy are understood better, however, until the concept is being accepted and seen as an important factor in society might take some time. Current discussions in parliament show that the concept of privacy has many different aspects and it will be very difficult to change the behaviour of organization to respect of privacy of their customers in a way that is comparable to Europe.

See you next year in Capetown!

BoD Services include specific services for executive and non-executive members of boards. These are personal services focused on the individual coaching of the customer.

We strictly follow the "nose in - hands out" principle which allows the directors to get the necessary information  from their organisation, without directly interfering with the executives in charge. Services are on an individual basis but include:

  • Individual Risk Reporting (Project and Operational Risk)
  • Support for members of project steering committees (Preparation and execution)
  • Independent risk anaysis and 3rd party opinion / audits
  • Preparation of audits for the IARMC (integrated audit and risk committee)
  • Personal opinion on compliance issues
  • International inquiries about specific topics
  • Networking with other directors with comparable responsibility

These services are based on a personal relationship and must be tailored to the needs of the individual customer.

How should executive boards and board of directors (BoD) approach technology risk management? This article has the answers.
